Hope in Suffering

Every Day of the Rest of Your Life Will Not Feel Like This

Today I have been praying in a particularly focused way for specific people in my life who are suffering. I won’t say more about their various situations because their stories are not mine to tell.

But I said something to one of my most beloved friends today that SHE had actually said to me (repeatedly) when I was going through my dark, soul-wrenching, felt hopeless season of suffering many years ago:

“Every day of the rest of your life will not feel like this. It won’t. I know you can’t feel that right now. That’s OK. But I know it’s true, so I’m going to keep telling you it until you can believe it and feel it too.

Every day of the rest of your life is not going to feel like this.”

BTW—If you know someone who is really struggling, especially with depression, I encourage YOU to read these books. (I emphasize the “you” part because, sometimes, when someone dear to us is struggling with depression, we can be tempted to just throw books / theology / “fixes” at them. Oh, please don’t! Please consider reading yourself first. Then, maybe, invite them to read even just one section or one chapter with you. Keep it short. Keep it doable. Otherwise, it’ll probably just feel like another burden on the back of someone who is already feeling quite crushed enough.):
