Please Oh Please Help Me with this Graphics Decision (I’m SO verbal and so NOT visual!)

OK. We’re at a decision-point on these promotional materials for my new-new retreat (“Titus 2 in a 21st Century World”). I’ve heard from a handful of you already, but for the other 800 of you who are reading this right now, would you pretty-pretty-pretty-please UN-LURK yourselves and weigh in? (Hey! Weigh in! It’s like I’m tying it to my post from yesterday. 🙂 ) Here is sample A: And here is sample B:   Oh, and if you don’t feel comfortable leaving a comment, you are welcome (invited!) to email me directly. Thanks, friends! Happy Tuesday! — Tara B.

  • Fear Not!

Wonder if Washington would just do this …

In less than two weeks, I will have the joy of being with the women of Living Water Community Church again. Last year, I shared my “standard” retreat with them, but this time we are going to be tackling the topic of FEAR. Here’s the thing: I continue to struggle with anxiety and fear! So I’m really wondering if we could all just gather around loud speakers during their event and listen to Timothy Keller’s sermon on fear (sermon number 25 in this podcast list) because MAN! He is just so wise! And boy does he love Jesus. A lot. Assuming such a plan would be a no-go with Mrs.…

What I was REALLY thinking when I watched David E. on 9/11/01

In his post over on our RedeemingChurchConflicts.com blog, Dave Edling writes a powerful piece regarding today’s infamously tragic day: 9/11 and the Twins We check each others draft posts (a help, by the way, which I am extremely grateful for!), and today he just would not let me say “my part” in his post. He (dear, sweet, humble man that he is) thinks my words are too flattering or self-serving. I can respect his opinion, of course! And I’m happy to honor his request. But he said I could POST AWAY on my own blog. And so I shall. I assume everyone over the age of five or six has…

    Worth Your Time

I have to warn you … if you click on through to Dave’s most recent post on our RedeemingChurchConflicts.com blog, you may be very tempted to shout a hearty, “Amen!” Even if you’re a (frozen chosen) Presbyterian like we are. It’s that good: Cover Art and the Ministry of the New Covenant Challies also linked to a video that is worth your time—but I also have to warn you about this too … I found the text display SO annoying at the beginning that I almost clicked out of it. But I’m glad I didn’t. Stick it out for the entire 150 seconds. It’s a great reminder / explanation of…

    Titus 2 in a 21st Century World ™

Thanks to the brilliant Lyndsay over at The Shabby Suite, I may have a new “look” for my (rolling out in 2012!) new retreat. Here are the first two iterations we’re working with: Before we create all of the docs I send to all of my event hosts (handout cover sheet, bookmarks, posters, postcards, thank you notes, etc.), I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts. If you don’t feel comfortable commenting publicly, you’re always welcome to email me directly.   Thanks in advance for your counsel! Blessings, Tara B.

    Weekend Weekend Ahhhh! The Weekend!

Ella wore her Happy 2nd Birthday American Girl outfit (from Uncle Fred and Aunt Kali) to church today. And of course, she had to bring her favorite dolly: Mmmmmmm … I love quiet weekends—especially when Fred & Ella are cooking the pancakes:   Hope your weekend is a restful one too! Your friend, Tara B.

Destructive Church Conflict — The Antithesis to Our Faith

Dave hit it out of the park again with his most recent post over at RedeemingChurchConflicts.com: Destructive Church Conflicts — The Antithesis to Our Faith In it, he lists a number of evidences of this antithesis. Consider just a few: – The temporal is of greater concern than the eternal. – Self-interest supersedes the interests of others. – Angry venting feels more productive than controlling the tongue. – Being a victim is more satisfying than being an overcomer.  – Anxiety over possible outcomes takes priority over trusting God. And then he wraps up the post with a sentence so well crafted I WISH we had included it in our actual…

So You Want to be a Published Author

Whenever anyone asks for my advice on how to get published, I always send them to this page of Michael Hyatt’s blog: Advice to First Time Authors I also encourage them to purchase and follow EVERY STEP in his e-books: Writing a Winning Book Proposal Even though Peacemaking Women has been selling well for six years now (and is available in Korean and Spanish), I still followed his advice line-for-line when I drafted Dave’s and my book proposal for Redeeming Church Conflicts. It’s just that good.   So here comes the fun part: Because I recently endorsed his e-books, I get to give ONE copy of each away to a…
