    Paige Benton Brown

Yowza! Is my heart being ministered to (yet again) by the one and only Paige Benton Brown! Well, actually I’m being ministered to by God but He is using this brilliant, humble vessel. Want to be convicted and encouraged? Make time for this video teaching: The Responsive Heart (I can’t wait to LiveBlog her this summer. Twice. My fingers are going to be SO tired … but it’ll SO be worth it.)

    Defeated Weariness

In “A Praying Life”, Paul Miller says that “defeated weariness comes just before cynicism.” Today, I am in the battle of faith’s fight against defeated weariness. But isn’t it hard to engage in the battle when you are so weary?   Thank God that all He calls us to He also supplies. ‘Lord, my heart is not proud. And my eyes are not haughty. And I do not go after things too great and too difficult for me. Surely I have composed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child on his mother, like a weaned child on me is my soul. Israel, hope in the Lord now and forever.’…

LiveBlogging the 2012 Gospel Coalition Women’s Conference

I just received official word from The Gospel Coalition’s very own Collin Hansen … I get to LiveBlog their 2012 Women’s Conference! Pastor Anyabwile was kind enough to send an email on my behalf and I was truly thrilled when I received the email approval this morning. What a grace! Now I just can’t wait for June. If you’d like an email reminder when I launch the LiveBlogs, you can sign up here: Or better yet? Join us in Orlando June 23-25! It would be great to see you there. I could even put your pic up on the LiveBlog if you’d like! 🙂 OK. Back to work now. In…

Things Don’t Look Good for the Swiffer WetJet, Mom

Sophia’s science fair project has a title something along the lines of: “Chill Out, Mom! The Kitchen is Clean Enough!” It is based on two ways of cleaning the counter and floor—the “old way” (409 for the counter and regular mopping for the floor) and the “new way” I have adopted since Ella was born (Clorox wipes and Swiffer WetJet). Sophie’s hypothesis was that the new ways are fine and I can stop feeling guilty about the easy/quick way I’m cleaning lately. But then there’s that pesky ol’ scientific method that is CLEARLY proving her hypothesis to be false. Yes, yes. It’s true. We have MANY colonies of bacteria thriving…

    Keep Calm and Carry On

Of course there are serious, nation-wide and worldwide concerns that this simple poster from WWII surely addresses in this day and age. But I also had a more intimate connection to its words simply as a mother and wife and church member: Oh! How sweeter and calmer (and far more productive!) so many things would be if those of us who are prone to paralysis by our fretting would simply keep calm and carry on.   (HT: Challies for posting this great video of the story behind this poster …)

Pray With And For Each Other Every Day

The oldest living couple on Earth (married for 85 years!) gives sage advice in this interview. Plus, aren’t they just the cutest couple you’ve ever seen? Oldest Living Couple on Earth Gives Great Relationship Advice   (HT: Heidi O! I just love my FaceBook friends. Especially when I’m on the road—I still get to share a peek into their lives and they into mine.)

Crying in Public (The Power of Adrenaline)

I had two bad (understatement) experiences flying home on Sunday. The first started out fairly low-level … an oversized man was pouring over the armrest between us on a tiny airplane. I tried my best to lean way out into the aisle to avoid having his body pressed up against mine, but it was to no avail. Plus, he wasn’t even trying to stay in his own space AND he was eating some huge, meaty, onion-y sandwich while drinking a soda while eating Cheetos. It was extremely gross and violating and I thought about trying to get the flight attendant to make an announcement to see if anyone would change…

Might Be The Funniest Feedback I Have EVER Received

I am always amazed and humbled every single time I am invited to serve in any teaching/speaking capacity. What a blessing it is to get to spend time with God’s people, enjoying His Word and the fellowship of the saints! Even ol’ introverted me finds it all to be a great joy. And truly, women are wonderful. I love to observe and enjoy their spiritual gifts, intelligence, compassion, creativity, wisdom (I could go on and on …). But I have to say … two aspects of this particular event are going to stick out in my mind as statistical outliers in the realm of Lori J./Joe A. creating Living the…

Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Rio Rancho & Desert Springs Church

I simply cannot imagine a more hospitable, genuinely friendly, warm welcome than the one I just received from the ladies of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) of Rio Rancho and Desert Springs Church. There are two churches working so hard to serve the women at this event because when the OPC’s planned (tiny!) women’s event jumped from “35 or 50” registrants to 250+, the women of Desert Springs Church said, “Have the event here! Our facility can hold that many people and our men and women can help with all of the logistics of serving a bigger event.” Can you say gracious, servant-oriented, people? I just LOVED watching them happily…
