Holy “Musts”

I was visiting with a friend yesterday about my mullings on the topic of being busy beyond the scope of our calling, and how God might be calling some of us to make terribly hard decisions about important things that we care deeply about so that we can scale back from the overload.

(Proverbs 23:4 says, ‘Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint.’ We may not be wearing yourself out to get rich—but are we wearing yourself out for other reasons; things that seem good and right, but are driving us into a workaholic, compulsive lifestyle?)

And my friend mentioned a term that really resonated with me:

Holy Musts

She said that she’s been thinking about “holy musts” for years (after reading a book on the topic)—and now I am too.

What are my holy musts?

In what ways am I (unwisely) expending myself and pouring out my time and energy for things that are good—but are not, right now, in line with where God has me and what He is calling me to do today?

I think this topic is rolling around in my heart and mind because I can’t stop thinking that maybe it’s time to create a new women’s event (and shelve my old standard women’s retreat). Maybe something along the lines of:

Too Busy for Relationships (with God and Neighbor)

Maybe from Romans …

Hmmmmmmmmm …

It’ll be interesting to see if this actually materializes. A) The substance in my real life; and B) Any blogs or events opportunities to encourage/serve others.

Sending you love from your mulling-things-over-friend,
Tara B.

PS
To give you a smile from something that IS in line with my current holy musts …
