    Megan Hill’s New Book: “Contentment–Seeing God’s Goodness”

Oh, how I love to read books written by friends! It is even more fun when I am invited to review a pre-release manuscript. Such was the case with Megan Hill’s latest book: Contentment–Seeing God’s Goodness. Like so many of the P&R titles, this is a profound and beautiful book. As I prayerfully read Contentment, I was reminded of biblical truth and encouraged/equipped to act in accordance with sound theology. I was drawn to worship Christ and thus, to turn away from my fear-soaked, other-and-self-centered, “constant state of distress, anxiety, and regret” (pre-release .pdf page 19). Through sound biblical teaching applied to the challenges of real life, Megan Hill helped me…

New ASL (Sign Language)-Interpreted Videos + Some Hard News from Our Family …

Dear friends, Thank you for all of the kind and encouraging words you have shared with me over the years—and for the brave and vulnerable words you shared with me, too. Did you know that I still have every single prayer card that you gave me at your events? Twenty years’ worth! Tens of thousands of cards. Millions of words. So much pain—and so much hope. I cherish each one and I continue to pray for you. Since I met so many of you when I served in the PCA, I feel it is important that I let you know that our family is no longer in the PCA.…

From Garden to Glory (by Courtney Doctor)

I just finished reading Courtney Doctor’s wonderful Bible study, From Garden to Glory, and I highly recommend it to you, especially if you are eager to introduce your women to an overview of the Bible as one glorious, cohesive story of redemption.   in Mississippi, Maryland, Tennessee, and Missouri … Courtney will be teaching us all about Jesus’ high priestly prayer in John 17 – “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” Amen & Amen! And thank you for your ministry for the Lord and his people, dear Courtney!

    Meg’s Incredible Muffins

I am extremely grateful for all of the close friends and family members who continue to help us along on our journey of more healthy living. You motivate us by your example: canoeing, bicycling, hiking, push-up competitions and backflips on the Rims. You help us with specific recipes and wise counsel. And many of you pray for us, which is probably the most helpful thing of all. It’s hard, though, to change habits. This is especially true re: eating. “Healthy” and “good for you” foods sometimes just don’t taste very good (initially) when your taste buds have been ruined by junk food. But this recipe tastes GREAT. It is the…

    Phases of Writing

I’m officially working on my next book, so I’ve been thinking a lot about the (wonderful!) time I spent writing Redeeming Church Conflicts with Cap’n Dave. Towards the end of our work together, I remember one particularly enjoyable call when I spent five hours on the phone listening to my coauthor paint vivid pictures of example after example of “redeeming church conflicts.” It was wonderful—he is profoundly wise; his heart is for the Lord and the Church; and MAN! Can he paint a detailed picture of Christians redeeming conflict (or not redeeming conflict—many of his examples are like diamonds laid against black velvet; insight by the power of antithesis). He describes (sometimes…

Dream big. Work hard. Sacrifice. Be excellent. And then give it away! (HT: Joe Adams)

I love everything that I have ever read or seen by Carolyn McCulley and this video is no exception: If you have ever wondered why you are doing some “small ministry” in your daily life; or why you are working hard in secret; or whether any of it ever really matters, watch this video and be encouraged. It reminded me so much of a man I respect and value deeply, Joe Adams of Southside Fellowship. He is the only reason why Living the Gospel in Relationships actually exists. Like the hero in this video, he too is a tech geek, he has a passion for serving God’s people, and he is brilliant and…

    Peacemaker Conference LiveBlogs

In just a few hours, I will be leaving to serve at The 2015 Peacemaker Conference: The Rhythm of Peace. In addition to teaching, I also have the joy of liveblogging the plenary sessions. If you have no idea what liveblogging is, you are in good company! I just heard the term for the first time a few years ago. Basically, LiveBlogs provide continuous “live” coverage of events through text, photos, and links, so it’s like you get to be there, even if the event is halfway around the world. Plus, you get to participate in the LiveBlog too (if you want to)! You can interact with the speakers if they are holding a…
