Searching for that “One True Love”

Pastor Timothy Keller accompanied me on my walk this morning (via podcast) and the sermon was so edifying that I wanted to be sure to share it with you. Here is the description: “In dealing with inner emptiness we often hope for ‘one true love.’ Jacob and Leah have that hope after the failure of their lives. When their dreams are achieved, their hopes are dashed. Leah eventually achieves inner peace by placing her hope in God, who alone can deliver.” And the link. (Sorry that I don’t know how to link to the EXACT sermon, but it’s the 39th sermon down on this page and is entitled, “The Struggle…

Trusting God in the Midst of FEAR (Andree Seu)

With many thanks to my friend Jessie Y. for sending me the links, I am SO pleased to share with you three messages that Andree Seu gave at John Piper’s church on the topics of trust and fear: Trusting God in the Midst of Fear by Andree Seu I pretty much immediately started in on the first message and can’t wait to hear them all. What a wise and winsome woman! Wisdom birthed throughout a life with much suffering, I know. But oh! We are the blessed recipients of the Holy Spirit’s perfect work in her oft’ painful life.   Thank you, Andree Seu! (And Jessie too!) And most of…

How can I even consider reconciliation when there has been no justice?

I’ve been holding off on “officially” announcing this to you all because Dave and I are still tweaking and improving and trying to make it “just right” (AND I wanted to really roll it out with some sort of big giveaway) … But Dave’s post today was just so good, that I’m going to give you the sneak-peak into our new blog (RedeemingChurchConflicts.com): How can I even consider reconciliation when there has been no justice? I hope you enjoy it (and “like” it on FaceBook and retweet it, etc. etc.). And please do feel free to send us questions! We’re really hoping to serve and bless through this new blog.…

What do you think of this AD?

This coming October, I have the great joy of serving at The Amazing Grace 360 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Because I am teaching at both the pre-conference and conference sessions, I also get to have a table in the exhibition hall and an advertisement in the conference materials. I already have the WORLD’S BEST exhibition-hall-table-helper … Samara! (I’m SO grateful she is willing to help me!) And Fred and I are working on my “ad” for the conference materials. Keeping in mind that this is just a rough draft (so please be gentle with your criticisms! 🙂 ), I was wondering if you would share your feedback with me re:…

    Summer Days

Dave and I are working hard to get RedeemingChurchConflicts ready to launch. (You can peek now—but it’s not where we want it to be yet!) And in addition to yet another minor medical procedure, I’ve been keeping five wonderful children alive for a few days: (Because I firmly believe that, sometimes, parents can just use a break from parenting! So we do what we can to serve our friends.) ‘Course, we’re enjoying our own too:   Blessed, blessed, blessed— (And, yes, still a little uncomfortable. C’est la guerre.) Blessings on your Thursday! Your friend, Tara B.

Our Editor Has Approved and Accepted our Manuscript!

We just heard the wonderful news from our editor at Baker Books that “Redeeming Church Conflicts” has gone through all of the major editing needed for completion and we are on track for a May 1, 2012 roll-out. Needless to say, Dave Edling (my coauthor) and I are PSYCHED. Well. Dave is a very calm and reserved man, so maybe he is just “pleased”. But I AM PSYCHED! 🙂 One of the things we get to do in the following few months is bring a blog online related to our book’s topic (“redeeming church conflict”). So I was wondering if you guys could help me out a little … Specifically,…

Be in Heart What You Really Are

There is so much wisdom in this brief book: The Heart of a Servant Leader: Letters from Jack Miller. The example I was reviewing today was written to a man who was in conflict with his church leaders and then, after another pastor was brought into the conflict to try to help (‘Rob’), the man became conflicted with the new (trying-to-help-with-the-conflict) pastor too. Please note: this excerpt is after a long, kind, gentle affirmation and assurance of deep love for the recipient of the letter. If Pastor Jack Miller was anything in life, he was an encourager. But this excerpt is such an insightful confrontation that I really wanted to…

Preventing Church Splits (HT: Thabiti Anyabwile)

Hooray for this GREAT post from Pastor Anyabwile: Preventing Church Splits It is so good. Truly. And it’s about far more than ‘just’ preventing church splits—it’s really about all of the ‘one anothering’ commands of Scripture. (Love one another. Serve one another. Pray for one another. Forgive one another. Bear one another’s burdens, etc.) If you love the Church and would like to know how to love your local church better, take a few moments to read this. And then? Print it out (or give yourself a task and archive it electronically ) and spend some TIME with it in the coming weeks. It’s that good. Let me share just…
